Strong to severe storms around the state later today

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – It is quiet start to the day for a change, and while today will be dominated by hotter temperatures and higher humidity, strong to severe storms will steal the headlines this evening. Expect the activity to move into northern Kansas after 1 p.m. and arrive in the Wichita area after 7 p.m. Damaging wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain are the concerns in that order.

Highs today in the lower to middle 90s will feel like 100 to 105 degrees when you factor in the humidity. Tuesday and Wednesday promise to be even worse with many areas across central and eastern Kansas feeling like 105 degrees or hotter. Strenuous outdoor activities should be avoided during the afternoon, and if you must be outside, stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in the shade.

Additional storms on Tuesday (northwest Kansas), and farther southeast on Wednesday are possible, if not likely and some will be severe with small hail and gusty winds. Expect dry weather with a small cool down and less humidity on Thursday and Friday…
