1,800 catfish stocked in Madison County lake

RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) – With summer in full swing, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife has been stocking local lakes with catfish.

On Monday morning, the department brought 1,800 catfish to Whitehall Park Lake in Madison County. According to Fisheries Biologist Dane Balzman, this is done to provide fishing access close to where people live.

“We see a lot of people show up and go fishing right after we stock,” said Balzman. “These lakes get a lot of fishing pressure. We stock keeper-sized fish. These fish go in, they don’t have to grow before they’re keeper-sized. So they’re stocked at a large size. A lot of fish do get caught the first week or two, but that harvest does get spread out. I mean, there’ll be fish here. We run nets in the fall, and there are still quite a few catfish up until the fall.”…
