Semi-truck crash leads to DUI arrest after Nashville police find ‘strong’ alcohol odor and 7-year-old child in backseat

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A semi-truck driver was arrested in Nashville over the weekend after the truck crashed and police discovered a strong smell of alcohol, as well as a child in the backseat, according to an arrest affidavit.

Police said officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash on Saturday. The affidavit says that once at the scene, they detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on the breath of the defendant, identified as Michel Dushime. They also noticed the driver had “bloodshot glossy eyes … was unbalanced on his feet, could not give direct statements to officers regarding the crash, and had slurred speach [sic].”

Upon conducting tests at the scene, officers say that Dushime was unable to balance during single-leg tests and struggled to balance and follow directions during the “walk and turn test.” A cold 24-ounce beer was still in the cab of the truck, police said, and “was approximately half full and opened.”…
