Local forts to host Independence Day celebrations

Sister sites Fort Morris Historic Site and McAllister State Historic Park are hosting Independence Day Celebrations.

At Fort Morris, visitors will experience historic black powder weapon-firing demonstrations each hour, living history programs, old-fashioned toys and games, sack races, jump rope, beanbags, and more! FREE ADMISSION thanks to Friends of Fort Morris.

And at Fort McAllister, step back in time and commemorate the 250th Independence Day with the spirit of 1864! For the first time and 250th only, there will be a special visit from Claude-Étienne Minié, the French military instructor and inventor famous for solving the problem of designing a reliable muzzle-loading rifle by inventing the Minié ball in 1849, and the Minié rifle in 1849. This traditional celebration is filled with captivating living history demonstrations, musket round-making, old-timey games, and an artillery display!
