LDS Temple construction to begin following ceremony in south Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MO – Construction will soon begin on one of the largest church-related building projects the area has seen in years.

On Saturday, June 6th, leaders and members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints gathered to break ground for the new Springfield Missouri Temple.  During the ceremony, church leaders spoke about what the temple will mean for the 20,000 Latter-Day Saints living in southwest Missouri. “We recognize that holy places bless the communities that we live in. As people of all faiths worship regularly in their own holy places, they gain an increased desire to love God and their neighbors, build stronger families, and become kinder and more generous. These holy places build our communities into better places to live,” stated Devon Jarvis, Stake President of the Springfield, Missouri Stake.

The 29,000 square-foot, single-story edifice will be located on 38 acres off Evans Road (Farm Road 188) near Farm Road 175. The area is west of U.S. 65. While within the Springfield city limits, it will have an Ozark address.  According to details announced by the church organization, the temple will include two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry.
