Henderson County raises property tax to fund education, law enforcement

The Henderson County Board of Commissioners voted to increase property taxes by 4.3 cents at its June 3 meeting to pay for $17.6 million in additions to the Fiscal Year 2027 budget.

That increase accounts for spending on education, law enforcement and solid waste, among other areas, making for a total of $244.8 million and a tax rate of 47.4 cents per $100 of valuation.

“We’ve still got one of the lowest tax rates in the state and much lower than other states,” Commissioner Michael Edney said. “I don’t like it, I hate to pay my own taxes, but we got to do what we got to do.”…
