‘Not enough’: Drivers cause neighborhood traffic troubles as multiple ramps in NKY close

COVINGTON, Ky. (WKRC) – Less than a day after the entrance and exit ramps from Interstate 71/75 at 12th Street in Covington closed, residents along West 12th Street said they were already dealing with hundreds of confused and angry drivers cutting through their neighborhood to find another way.

Driver after driver tried to reach the entrance ramp only to discover it was closed, then turned into nearby streets to reroute. Some drivers accepted the detour, while others sped off. Many motorists who didn’t make a U-turn continued straight onto West 12th Street.

For neighbors, the traffic surge is familiar. Patty Henson, who has lived on West 12th Street for more than 30 years, said problems on the interstate routinely spill into the neighborhood.

“So many cars are lined up back to back, and it’s a narrow street. People don’t know that. It’s two ways. It’s hard to get up and down. Anything that happens on the bridge affects the street,” Henson said…
