CLAY, N.Y. (WSYR) — While construction for the Micron project is underway, according to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, there is still much preparation that needs to be taken into account when it comes to public safety.
Construction on Micron’s $100 billion microchip manufacturing factory in Clay began in January. Sheriff Toby Shelley, along with his team, traveled to Maricopa County, Ariz., to better understand the impact of a microchip manufacturing plant coming in. The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is already up and running, and in terms of scope and size, it is similar to what Micron’s campus is expected to eventually look like.
“It has this wow factor…the buildings, the cranes, the parking, the solar,” Shelley said. “If you put that same thing in our neighborhood, where we have a lot of things to compare it to, it would be like a…I don’t know what’s bigger than wow, but it’d be the next step above wow.”…
