Vehicle swept away in Lubbock flooding during Monday night rainstorm

LUBBOCK, Texas — Heavy rainfall Monday night caused flooding in parts of Lubbock, prompting the Lubbock Fire Rescue Dive team to respond to a water rescue involving a driver swept away in their vehicle by floodwaters.

The Lubbock Police Department responded to the incident near 300 Cesar E. Chavez Drive. LPD said a driver attempted to cross a stream during the storm when the vehicle became caught in rising water and was swept away.

The driver was able to safely exit the vehicle and was not injured. Emergency responders, including a dive team, were called to the scene and later recovered the vehicle from the water…
