Buncombe County teacher turns STEM lessons into life-changing prosthetics

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — At North Windy Ridge Intermediate School in Buncombe County, STEM teacher Russell Thompson is using a 3D printer to design custom prosthetic arms for children with limb differences.

Inspired by a video from the nonprofit E-Nable, Thompson built on classroom lessons where students once created cardboard prosthetic arms and began developing functional 3D-printed versions for students in need.
