Authorities in Toledo, Ohio, continue their search for two male suspects believed to have opened fire at a local festival last weekend, resulting in 12 individuals being shot. Toledo Police Chief Michael Trinley provided an update during a press briefing on Tuesday, describing the suspects as males between 18 and 24 years old.
While several persons of interest have been interviewed and multiple search warrants executed, no arrests have been made so far. Chief Trinley expressed confidence that investigators have “significant leads” and anticipate making arrests soon.
According to Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz, all 12 victims are expected to survive their injuries. The mayor noted that although some victims were targeted intentionally, the majority were innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire.
Investigations suggest that only three of those wounded were actively involved in the confrontation, which reportedly stemmed from tensions between two rival groups. Chief Trinley explained that the incident escalated after verbal disrespect led to a brief foot chase and a physical assault, prompting one individual to pull a firearm and open fire. This sparked a reciprocal exchange of gunfire between members of the opposing groups.
The police have reviewed video footage and conducted interviews to piece together the sequence of events. At present, authorities are processing two firearms recovered in connection with the shooting and are comparing them to shell casings collected at the scene as they work to identify and apprehend the suspects.
