KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — With the possibility of heavy rainfall still in the forecast after flash flooding led to a woman needing to be rescued from her car Monday, the Knoxville Fire Department is warning drivers to be watchful of road conditions.
Knoxville Fire Department was called to help multiple people whose vehicles were stuck in water amid flash flooding Monday, including a woman whose car became trapped in rising water on Fifth Avenue near Hall of Fame.
“Most of our calls were folks that were in vehicles that were stuck in some kind of water. I would say our most treacherous or dangerous sounding call was the call at Fifth Avenue. The person had gotten almost under the railroad bridge there. She was stuck in her car. The water was rising quickly. So thankfully we were able to get there pretty fast and get her out,” KFD Assistant Chief Mark Wilbanks said.

A City of Knoxville spokesperson told 6 News that the city’s rain gauge at First Creek recorded over an inch of rain in the span of 15 minutes, and more than four inches of rain over the course of four hours.
