Officer shot after pursuing a stolen vehicle in Boyle Heights

A Los Angeles police officer was shot in Boyle Heights Tuesday when gunfire erupted at the end of a vehicle chase, multiple law enforcement sources told NBC4 Investigates.

The chase began sometime around 2 p.m. near the intersection of Alameda Street and Washington Boulevard when officers spotted a man armed with a gun in a vehicle. The man refused to yield to officers and sped off, prompting a car chase.

The chase ended when the Toyota truck jumped the curb and ran into an embankment near the intersection of Marietta and Garnet Streets. The suspect, the only person inside the vehicle, then began to run away on foot. Responding officers then chased after the man on the streets…
