Roanoke Sheriff’s Office plans outreach event for residents facing housing insecurity

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office is inviting residents experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity to a community outreach event to connect them with essential resources and support services.

Officers are hosting this quarterly event from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, at Elmwood Park in the City of Roanoke. This free event offers essential items, lunch and additional resources for those in need.

According to the sheriff’s office, the event will provide personal care items, food, assistance and opportunities for community members to connect in a welcoming environment. Organizers say no registration is required to attend the event.

The outreach effort is designed to help individuals access available services while fostering collaboration among local organizations, businesses, faith-based groups and community volunteers. The Roanoke Sheriff’s Office is also seeking donations of personal hygiene items that will be delivered directly to those in need. Requested items include:

  • Toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Soap and body wash
  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Razors and shaving cream
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Wipes
  • Socks
  • Combs and brushes
  • Lip balm
  • Hand sanitizer
