Going into summer, Houston’s food and beverage industry continues to see a wave of closures.
At least 15 restaurants, bars and breweries shut their doors in May — one of the highest monthly totals recently tracked by the Houston Chronicle. Restaurant owners continue to cite the same challenges that have plagued the industry over the past year: rising operating costs and customers cutting back on spending amid economic uncertainty. Other reasons for closing this past month included expiring leases and owners retiring.
