Missouri Attorney General announces anti-human trafficking campaign during World Cup

Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway announces an anti-human trafficking campaign that the state will participate in during the FIFA World Cup games.

The World Cup takes place from June 11 through July 19, spanning 16 host cities across three North American countries with 48 teams competing. The first game in Kansas City will take place next Tuesday, June 16. The games, along with fan festivals, are expected to draw more than half a million people to Kansas City. During a press conference Monday, Hanaway says that can create ideal conditions for human trafficking.

“The World Cup is going to be a place that draws money, all kinds of resources, people away from home for weeks at a time. The Super Bowl on an annual basis is the largest human trafficking event within the United States. Sadly, we anticipate that the World Cup will be the sight of more human trafficking than we’ve seen ever before.”…
