Ultra-endurance cyclist attempting Route 66 world record to bike through the Ozarks

MOUNT VERNON, Mo. — An internationally known ultra-endurance cyclist attempting to set a Guinness World Record by riding the entire length of Route 66 is expected to make a stop in Joplin Tuesday morning, before heading through Mount Vernon and Springfield in the afternoon.

According to organizers, 66-year-old Joe Barr is now expected to arrive in Joplin around 10 a.m. after his support team adjusted the timeline for his cross-country ride.

Weather permitting, Barr plans to make a brief stop at the World Street Painting site. Community members are invited to attend and cheer him on during the visit…
