Heat advisory issued as temperatures soar in the Ozarks

We started our morning early with fading rain and thunderstorms, mainly near and north of Highway 60. The rain is leaving and the heat is taking over! A heat advisory is in effect from noon today through 7 AM on Wednesday.

Temperatures today through Thursday will be in the upper 80s to low 90s. The increased moisture from recent heavy rain won’t help our situation. Heat index values will soar into the upper 90s to low 100s in the afternoons.

This will be a time to drink more water than usual and to take longer breaks from working outdoors. Also, be sure to keep your pets’ water supply filled and to ensure access to water and shaded spaces for livestock or other outdoor animals.

The pattern turns active again late Thursday through the weekend with several opportunities for rain and storms. There will be breaks in the wet weather with some sun too.

A weak cold front late on Thursday will bring the first batch of storms to the Ozarks. Hot and humid weather will create plenty of fuel for storms, and there will also be some wind energy to organize storms. The Storm Prediction Center has outlined a 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather in the area Thursday evening into Thursday night. Damaging wind gusts are the main hazard.

Rain will push southeast on Friday morning, and we may find some dry weather on Friday during the day. The break is brief as a warm front will lift through the Ozarks on Saturday morning, sparking additional rain and storms.

Another cold front will move near the area on Sunday and sweep through late Sunday into Monday. More rain and storms are expected with the front in the area before the rain clears away late Monday and we find milder weather for the middle of next week…
