WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A con artist is targeting elderly Kansans with promises of home repairs that are never completed, authorities say.
The Butler County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning to residents Tuesday after receiving reports about a “con artist” posing as a salesman. The con man tricks the homeowner into paying them for repairs, but then no one ever shows up to make the repairs, the sheriff’s office said.
Home repair scams are not new. They can involve a single individual or can be a more complicated con involving shady financing companies, according to the Federal Trade Commission.

The agency said con artists and scammers use high-pressure tactics to get you to pay before you’ve had a chance to investigate.
