Severe storms possible through midweek, hot temps

There are still some showers and storms this morning tracking through portions of Central and Northern Kansas but they are not as dangerous or numerous as yesterday’s storms. Heavy rainfall lingers through mid-morning and will impact areas to the northeast where flooding has been an issue. Any clean up efforts today will need to be done as early as possible. More strong to severe storms are likely later this afternoon.

The next wave of storms will be capable of all forms of severe weather. Heavy rainfall will once again be likely too. In addition to dangerous storms there will also be dangerous heat. High temperatures in the 90s and 100s will be widespread. A Heat Advisory will be in effect today for much of Central Kansas. Even where we have highs in the 90s, the humidity will make it feel like the triple digits.

After we get through the hottest part of the afternoon, strong to severe storms will track west to east through the evening. Storms will weaken during the overnight, eventually being reduced down to a few showers east of the Kansas Turnpike by early Wednesday morning. Another late day storm chance Wednesday will mainly target areas between Central and Eastern Kansas. Timing for potential storms through the rest of the week looks similar.

High heat continues Wednesday but temperatures will gradually come back down after midweek. After Wednesday, the risk for strong to severe storms will not be as high Thursday. Some storms are still expected to develop from the south to the northeast. Looking ahead to the weekend, we will need to continue to be weather aware due to a severe risk already getting issued for Saturday.
