LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Jefferson County Board of Education District 3 member James Craig is resigning, saying Tuesday night’s meeting is his last on the board.
In a resignation letter dated June 9, Craig said serving on the board has been “one of the greatest honors” of his life, but “new opportunities have emerged” that he must pursue after eight years of service to JCPS. Craig pointed to major challenges and changes during his tenure, including navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and a transportation crisis, investing in 25 new schools and modernizing others, expanding paid family leave, and pushing a zero-tolerance stance on guns in schools. He also noted postsecondary readiness improved from 49% in 2018 to 87% for the Class of 2026, according to the letter.
