SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — South Dakota’s prisons are running out of space to house inmates.
Currently, some county jails are housing parole violators, and the state pays those counties $95 per day per inmate.
Reward offered in 2022 murder investigation
A new short-term plan will allow Minnehaha County to recieve more money for housing parolees.
“It allows us to bill the state $135 per day for the first 25 parole or DOC holds that we have in custody,” Chief Deputy Jeff Gromer said. “From 26 to 60, we’ll revert back to the current $95 a day and then anything over 60, we’re able to bill at $200 a day.”…
