LEABURG: Questions have been circulating in recent weeks about timber harvesting underway in an area the Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) refers to as “The Leaburg Forest,” with some residents expressing concerns that the project amounted to a 90-acre clear-cut or wondering whether proper permits and environmental protections were in place.
According to the utility, the current operation is a much smaller, covering 15.9 acres within the agency’s 925-acre Leaburg Forest.
EWEB, working with Trout Mountain Forestry, is conducting the harvest as part of the utilty’s long-term stewardship plan. It’s part of EWEB’s Healthy Forests Clean Water Program, which aims to maintain “healthy forests while protecting water quality in the McKenzie River watershed.”…
