Karmelo Anthony Jailed in Isolation After Murder Conviction in Texas Track Meet Stabbing

Additional Coverage:

Karmelo Anthony, recently convicted of murder, is currently held in isolation at Collin County Jail as he prepares to serve his 35-year sentence. The conviction stems from the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas.

Anthony was taken into custody immediately following Tuesday’s verdict. Until the trial concluded, he had been out on bail. Court records confirm that he has since filed a notice of appeal, signaling his intent to challenge the conviction as he awaits transfer to a Texas state prison, though the timeline for this move remains unclear.

In interviews with Fox News, Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis and prosecutor Bill Wirskye expressed relief over the jury’s decision. “This was murder, plain and simple,” Wirskye stated. Willis added, “I was relieved for the family mostly.”

Wirskye noted the strength of the prosecution’s case, emphasizing that the incident did not involve issues of race or self-defense. He credited a critical video shown to the jury, which clearly depicted the events and helped confirm Anthony’s guilt.

“The jury couldn’t help but be impressed by the parade of eyewitnesses that all told the same story,” Wirskye explained. The testimony of one particularly composed witness, who described Anthony’s demeanor as that of someone “who had a plan,” was highlighted as pivotal in persuading the jury.

Anthony faces a 35-year prison term with eligibility for parole after serving half of the sentence. Both prosecutors conveyed satisfaction with the sentencing outcome, underscoring their belief that justice was served in this tragic case.
