Sumpter sworn in as Red Springs mayor

RED SPRINGS — Mayor Caroline Sumpter was publicly sworn in as the first woman and second African-American to become mayor of Red Springs on Tuesday.

Sumpter officially took office on June 5; the public ceremony was held Tuesday. Members of the public were invited, along with members of the North Carolina Supreme Court and other public officials, alongside Sumpter’s family members.
