Before Hurricane Ian destroyed much of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., in late-September 2022, Roar Offshore was one of the fastest-growing and hottest events in offshore racing. Minus the necessary infrastructure, the event has been dormant ever since—but the Fort Myers Beach has been on a steady rebuilding path. And now the race has been purchased from Roar Offshore founder-organizers Tim and Cyndee Hill by Super Stock class racers Shaun Torrente.
The Hills, who run the nonprofit Fort Myers Offshore powerboat club, announced the news in a press release this morning.
“This has been a very special event for Cyndee and me,” Tim Hill said in the release.. “Roar Offshore was built through years of hard work, relationships, community support, and a shared passion for offshore racing. With the growth of AME Automotive, extensive work travel, and our continued involvement with Fort Myers Offshore, we simply do not have the time required to give Roar Offshore the attention it deserves. Shaun Torrente and Cole Leibel are the right people to carry this forward.”
The founder of Shaun Torrente Racing who lives and operates his business in Southwest Florida, Torrente brings world championship credentials in both the tunnel-boat and offshore racing worlds to the race-ownership role, as well as deep industry respect and decades of high-level powerboat racing experience to the future of Roar Offshore, according to the release.
