NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Personal bankruptcy filings in Tennessee rose over the past year, according to a new study.
A report from SmartAsset found Tennessee recorded 21,630 personal bankruptcy filings during the 12-month period ending March 31, 2026. That was up 6.6% from 20,296 filings during the same period a year earlier.
While Tennessee ranked 41st among states for year-over-year growth in filings, it remained one of the nation’s leaders in filings per capita. The state recorded 299.3 personal bankruptcy filings per 100,000 residents, ranking third nationally behind Alabama and Mississippi, according to the report…
