During Tuesday’s City Council meeting, we learned the city has been paying a group out of Tampa, FL to provide annual firefighter medical and fitness evaluations. This came to light when Councilman Les Simpson (P4) asked to have that item pulled from the agenda for further discussion.
Simpson questioned why the City uses Life Scan Wellness Centers, and wondered if money couldn’t be saved by using a local provider? The item listed the renewal agreement as ‘annual’ and at a cost of just under $264,500.00.
The council also heard from Scott Krchnak of Austin-based auditing firm Clifton, Larson, Allen (CLA) who offered the FY24-25 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report required by the State of Texas. Cities have 180 days from the end of the fiscal year to get that report turned in. Excluding weekends and holidays, that would mean Amarillo is at risk of failing to submit its report within that time…
