A severe thunderstorm watch for Freeport, Stephenson County and other nearby counties is in effect until 7 tonight.
The counties include Stephenson, Boone, Bureau, Carroll, De Kalb, Henry, Jo Daviess, Lee, McHenry, Mercer, Ogle, Putnam, Rock Island, Whiteside and Winnebago.
“A front extending from the Northern Plains to the Central Plains on Wednesday will move eastward to the Great Lakes/Ohio Valley to the Southern Plains by Friday morning, triggering showers and severe thunderstorms over the Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley/Great Lakes,” the National Weather Service reported. “Therefore, the Storm Prediction Center has issued an Enhanced Risk (level 3/5) of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley/Great Lakes through Thursday morning.”…
