ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque city leaders cut the ribbon on a new growers market Tuesday that’s opening in a food desert in the International District.
The People’s Market is at San Mateo and Kathryn and is intended to bring fresh food options to what has been known as a food desert.
“This area suffers from food insecurity, so we don’t have a grocery store within a mile of this neighborhood. And so our seniors, folks that are transit dependent, need somewhere to get odds and ends, fresh produce. And we want a place to gather, have events,” city councilor Nichole Rogers said…
