1 arrested after $1.65 million worth of fentanyl seized during Cobb County traffic stop

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A man has been arrested after more than 25 pounds of fentanyl were seized during a traffic stop Monday, according to the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office.

Akira Garcia Mondragon faces charges of trafficking fentanyl and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The sheriff’s office said the arrest followed weeks of surveillance and other investigative efforts by the Marietta/Cobb/Smyrna Narcotics Unit. During the traffic stop, a K-9 alerted unit members to the presence of narcotics, which were allegedly found during a search of the vehicle.

Altogether, deputies said they found 11.43 kilograms, or more than 25 pounds, of fentanyl with a street value of about $1.65 million. They also sized a firearm…
