Houston drivers face ongoing delays from roadwork, closures

HOUSTON (CW39) – Houston drivers heading through downtown and East Downtown this month may want to add a little extra time to their trips. As FIFA World Cup fan events begin across the area, several road closures and construction projects remain in place while crews continue work on major transportation improvements.

What is closing this weekend?

Construction crews are wrapping up final work near I-69 and McGowen Street, leading to a temporary closure of the northbound entrance ramp from McGowen.

The ramp will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2026.

Drivers traveling through the area should expect detours and may want to plan alternate routes during the daytime closure.

Which street closure is lasting longer?

Another traffic change will remain in place a little longer than originally planned. The closure of Chartres Street between McGowen Street and Gray Street has been extended by one week. The roadway is now scheduled to reopen at 5 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2026.
