Modesto man indicted for illegal firearm possession

SACRAMENTO, California — A federal grand jury has indicted 27-year-old Anthony Welch, of Modesto, on charges of being a felon in possession of firearms, U.S. Attorney Eric Grant announced.

Welch is accused of possessing a Glock 26 handgun on February 1, 2026, and a Glock 23 Gen4 .40 caliber handgun on June 2, 2026, according to court documents. Due to a prior felony conviction for assault with a deadly weapon with a firearm, Welch is prohibited from possessing firearms.

The investigation was conducted by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Zulkar Khan is prosecuting the case…
