SACRAMENTO, California — A federal grand jury has indicted a 49-year-old Sacramento man for attempting to place a destructive device on an aircraft, among other charges.
Kimani Osayande Jones, also known as Kimani Osayande Jackson, faces charges of attempting to place a destructive device on an aircraft, unlawfully possessing explosive material in an airport, and attempting to carry a dangerous weapon or explosive onto an aircraft, according to U.S. Attorney Eric Grant.
Court documents reveal that on May 30, 2026, at approximately 9 p.m., Jones attempted to pass through a Transportation Security Administration checkpoint at Sacramento International Airport to board American Airlines flight 2464. He was wearing a scarf covering his face and latex gloves. Inside his carry-on bag, authorities found an M-type explosive device, a torch lighter, a knife, scissors and scissor blades, an aerosol can, and zip ties.
