Amidst the continuing turmoil and scandal surrounding the Greater Lawrence Psychological Center (TPC) in past months, the Valley Patriot has now learned that since the departure of former CEO Carina Pappalardo, three more board members have resigned as the non-profit organization is now the subject of a criminal investigation by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Bureau of Substance Abuse and Addiction Services for offering financial incentives to recruit patients to their facilities.
Known in the business as Body Brokering, it is illegal in Massachusetts to pay people for referrals of new clients (or patients) to a facility offering public health or mental health services.
Paying for referrals is a criminal offense and is seen as a form of kickback or rebates which are felonies that can carry a prison sentence or thousands of dollars in fines, or both…
