Severe risk into the weekend then temps take a dip

Unsettled conditions continue as we head into the weekend. The greatest risk for strong to severe storms today will target Southwest Kansas and the Oklahoma Panhandle. We are off to a dry start to the day and not much moisture is expected through the afternoon. After we warm up into the 80s and low 90s, Southeast Colorado storms will begin to move into southwest portions of the area by the evening.

Showers and storms will track west to east through the night. Mainly impacting southern portions of the area. It will be drier the farther north you are. As storms weaken through the overnight, some leftover rain is possible into early Saturday morning. Another cold front sags south into the middle of the country by tomorrow, setting the stage for another severe risk. All forms of severe weather will be possible Saturday afternoon and evening. Storms will be oriented along the front to the south and east.

Storm chances will not be as high after Saturday. Some showers and embedded rumbles of thunder will still be around at the end of the weekend and into next week. Enjoy the brief reprieve from the heat during that time because it will not take long for temperatures to warm back up.
