Broncos Linebacker Jonathon Cooper Arrested Again Over Protection Order Violation

Additional Coverage:

Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper was arrested again Thursday night for allegedly violating a protection order issued after his recent domestic violence arrest, marking the second time in a week he has been taken into custody.

Cooper and his girlfriend were initially arrested last Friday on multiple domestic violence charges, including two counts of domestic violence and one count of criminal mischief, according to Douglas County jail records. Following that arrest, a protection order was put in place, which Cooper is now accused of breaching.

Court documents, as reported by the New York Post, revealed that additional charges, including felony strangulation, were filed in connection with the case. The Broncos issued a statement expressing their disappointment and said they are continuing to review the situation.

The incident reportedly occurred at Cooper’s home where an argument over alleged infidelity escalated. The woman reportedly grabbed Cooper’s phone and threw it against a wall before a physical struggle ensued over the device.

Cooper eventually regained possession and asked her to leave, allegedly threatening to break her phone. When she did not leave, Cooper bit the phone, damaging it, according to the arrest affidavit.

Cooper, who pleaded not guilty earlier this week, has played five seasons with the Broncos since being drafted from Ohio State in 2020. Last season, he played in 17 games, recording 50 tackles and eight sacks, contributing significantly to Denver’s defense.

Over his career, he has appeared in 81 games, with 266 tackles and 31.5 sacks. In November 2024, the Broncos secured Cooper with a four-year, $60 million contract extension.

The team has yet to comment further as the legal process continues.
