Cohoes teacher faces 2 years in prison for raping student

ALBANY — Former Cohoes school teacher Drake Galarneau pleaded guilty to two third-degree rape charges on Friday, admitting he repeatedly raped a student.

Galarneau pleaded guilty in return for an expected sentence of two years in prison. Third-degree rape carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison. Acting state Supreme Court Justice Roger D. McDonough said he also expected to sentence Galarneau to 10 years of post-release supervision.

Galarneau agreed to give up his teaching certificate and register as a sex offender as part of the plea deal with the Albany County district attorney’s office. Prosecutors allege the sexual contact occurred between May and October 2025…
