Ford Issues Recall for Over 250,000 Focus Vehicles Due to Engine Stall Risk
Ford is initiating a recall affecting more than 255,000 Ford Focus models from the 2012 to 2018 model years. This action addresses an issue stemming from a previous recall where repairs were improperly performed.
The concern centers on a malfunctioning canister purge valve, which can cause the engine to stall unexpectedly while driving. This defect poses a significant safety hazard by increasing the risk of crashes and injuries.
To resolve the issue, Ford dealerships will provide a free powertrain software update to affected vehicle owners. Notification letters are scheduled to be sent out starting July 6.
Owners with affected vehicles can reach Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 for more information. The recall is identified by Ford as number 26S40 and by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as 26V369. This follows the original NHTSA recall number 18V735 related to this problem.
Additionally, vehicle identification numbers (VINs) for the recall will be made searchable on the NHTSA website beginning July 6.
