Huntsville approves study to look at possible new I-65 exit

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The City of Huntsville has commissioned a traffic study to look at the possibility of creating a new I-65 interchange.

During its regular meeting on Thursday, the council approved a contract with Skipper Consulting for a traffic study looking at the western portion of the city.

The city said the idea of the study is to look at the current and future traffic volumes along the I-65 corridor between I-565 and Huntsville Brownsferry Road with an eye on potential improvements for traffic operations and even a potential new exit.

The city says the study is necessary due to the dramatic manufacturing growth in the area and plans for constructing hundreds of new single-family homes. Huntsville City Schools also plans to break ground later this year on a P-8 school in Limestone County…
