KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Knoxville Police Department plans to conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, June 26.
The officers plan to have the checkpoint on Central Avenue Pike, where they will check drivers for signs of alcohol and drug impairment. This is meant to deter impaired driving, preventing injuries and deaths, as well as raise awareness of the consequences of driving under the influence.

Alcohol and drug impairment may have contributed to at least seven fatal crashes in Knoxville last year, police said. The department did its last DUI checkpoint on Friday June 5, and it led to two arrests on DUI charges, according to police.
