CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — Questions remain unanswered regarding a detainee’s death in Chatham County last November as two agencies are disputing over who had custody of him.
According to the Nov. 18, 2025, incident report from the Savannah Police Department, 44-year-old Carlos Gutierrez was arrested at a gas station on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. for criminal trespass and obstruction of an officer.
Body-worn camera (BWC) footage shows the SPD officer putting Gutierrez in handcuffs and placing him in the patrol car. Gutierrez appeared to be calm during this interaction, but the officer reported that he was uncooperative…
