Suspect arrested following toy gun bank robbery in Greeley

DENVER (KDVR) — A suspect was arrested in connection with a bank robbery in Greeley on Thursday, according to a social media post from the Greeley Police Department on Friday.

On Thursday, around 6:15 a.m., Greeley police responded to East Memorial Park following a report of an “unwanted individual” camping on the property. Officers located the individual, identified as 35-year-old Itzae Mares. He was taken into custody on charges of municipal camping and obstruction before being released on summons several hours later.

Investigators said that shortly after being released, Mares reportedly stole a bike, spray-painted a toy cap gun to make it look like a real gun and entered a Chase Bank in the 4700 block of 29th Street. He allegedly robbed the bank at toy gunpoint and fled the scene on the stolen bike.

The Greeley Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team searched the area following the robbery and located Mares in the 3800 block of Centerplace Drive…
