A recent search sparked by an anonymous tip regarding the location of Nancy Guthrie, mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie, has yielded no evidence of her whereabouts. Nancy, 84, has been missing since February 1, when authorities reported she was abducted from her Tucson, Arizona home. Despite ongoing investigations, no suspects have been identified.
The tip was received by the Buscando Corazones collective, a Mexican volunteer search group whose name means “Looking for Hearts.” According to Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz, the group’s leader, the information suggested Nancy had been buried near a stream in the Mariposa region of Mexico, close to the Arizona border west of Nogales. Following the lead, the collective conducted a thorough search and uncovered a mass grave in the area.
However, the specific grave mentioned in the tip did not contain Nancy’s remains. Ayala Ortiz confirmed that this section had been previously searched without success. In their broader efforts, Buscando Corazones, along with another organization called Buscadoras de la Frontera, has discovered over 25 clandestine graves and recovered at least 32 sets of remains between April and May.
The group remains committed to continuing their search for Nancy and other missing persons in the region. After receiving the tip in early May, the collective carried out searches on May 16 and June 10, with plans to investigate another stream on June 16.
Meanwhile, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, which is leading the investigation with assistance from the FBI, issued a statement on June 11 addressing the anonymous tip. The department noted that they had not yet been contacted by Mexican authorities regarding the information but emphasized that the case remains active and that they will pursue any credible leads.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31, when she returned home after dinner with family. The search for her continues as authorities and volunteer groups work to uncover any new information.
