Letters written by North Fork students found 36 years later by hikers

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Letters written by students in North Fork over 30 years ago have been found by people hiking in the mountains.

On Jan. 25, 1990, students from North Fork Elementary in Madera County wrote letters, which they sent on their way in a time capsule balloon, thinking they would never see them again.

That is, until a few weeks ago, when a couple of hikers at Bighorn Lake near Mount Reinstein found the letters at 10,000 feet in elevation…
