GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -Today marks the third year that the town of Williston has thrown their Watermelon Festival. This extravagant, free to enter festival not only shows love for the popular summer fruit, but also celebrates the town’s agricultural roots. Hope Surles, the organizer for the event shared what makes this festival so special, “ to me it makes it special because I started this three years ago. My dad actually grows watermelons in Levy county so it was kind of a way to honor the farmers in our community but also honor my dad and all the hard work that he puts into it.”
There was no shortage of things to do at the festival as they held a pageant, had more than one hundred vendors available offering a wide variety of hand crafted goods and more. A wide variety of wildly themed food trucks, live music, and family activities were also on sight for the event…
