Four World Cup teams endure confirmed tornado scare as sirens ring out over city

Four World Cup nations were forced to take shelter or curtail their preparations on Saturday evening as a confirmed tornado and severe storm system swept through Kansas City, where England, Argentina, Algeria and the Netherlands are all based for the tournament.

Tornado sirens rang out across the city in the early evening, with emergency alerts confirming a tornado near the Randolph and World of Fun area of Clay County, tracking eastward through Missouri City and toward Sibley.

An updated warning issued by the National Weather Service at 9:12 p.m. local time remained in effect until 9:45 p.m., covering Jackson and Lafayette counties as a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Levasy, moving east at 35 miles per hour.
