It was another hot one in Albuquerque and throughout the Land of Enchantment. Afternoon highs peaked in the 90s in the Duke City while Deming reached 102 degrees. It was also an active day throughout the state with showers and thunderstorms. A few thunderstorms turned severe out east. Some of these storms brought heavy localized rainfall, gusty winds and small hail. Tonight, a backdoor cold front is forecasted to slide through northeast New Mexico and move farther south and west. Gusty winds are likely behind the cold front which is expected to bring stronger east canyon winds that could reach 45 mph to the central mountain chain. Gusty winds are expected in parts of the metro early tomorrow morning.
The backdoor front will also contribute to a cooldown across much of the state. Highs tomorrow will range in the 60, 70s, 80s and 90s throughout the state. Some locations could see temperatures drop at least 10-20 degrees below normal. Sunday’s forecast also has a rinse and repeat situation. Additional, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the state. Stronger to severe storms may develop in southeast New Mexico where hail, strong winds, and heavy localized rainfall would be the concern. If storms develop and turn strong heavy rainfall could cause flash flooding too.
