Sacramento Street Slaying Charge Puts Vallejo Man in the Hot Seat

A 23-year-old Vallejo man is facing a murder charge in connection with a May 11 shooting on Sacramento Street after being arraigned last Friday in Solano County Superior Court. Prosecutors say Vallejo detectives brought the case to the Solano County District Attorney’s Office before the charge was filed, and the defendant has entered a not guilty plea with a public defender appointed to represent him.

According to The Reporter, the defendant has been identified as Jovonn Ramon Adams. He appeared June 12 before Judge Bryan J. Kim in Department 15, where he entered his not guilty plea and was formally assigned a public defender for the case.

Scene on Sacramento Street

Vallejo police responded to the 1900 block of Sacramento Street on May 11 and found an adult man suffering from at least one gunshot wound, the department told SFGATE. He was pronounced dead at the scene. That report also noted the killing was Vallejo’s fourth homicide so far this year.

Arrest in Vacaville

Authorities located Adams on June 11 at a residence in the 300 block of Gabiano Court in Vacaville, where the Vacaville Police Department’s special weapons and tactics team carried out an operation that ended in his arrest without incident, The Reporter reported. He was booked into Solano County Jail on the murder charge.

What investigators say

Vallejo detectives say they obtained video footage that allegedly shows a lone gunman approaching the victim from behind, firing additional rounds, then running from the area. Detectives submitted the case to the Solano County District Attorney’s Office for review on June 10, which prosecutors used to file the murder charge and secure an arrest warrant.

Adams is scheduled to return to court for further arraignment at 8:30 AM on June 26 before Judge Stephanie Grogan Jones in Department 5. With the not guilty plea on the record, the case is set to move into the standard pretrial and discovery stages in Solano County Superior Court.
