The 2026 Capital Pride celebration has brought more than 5000 people out to Albany’s Washington Square Park. The festivities kicked off with an hour-long parade made up of more than 100 floats and cars, and looped back to the park for more celebrations.
“An event like this shows not only that we exist and visibility, but it’s also full of allies and supporters, all who are saying we care, you matter, we’re here for you. And that literally saves people’s lives,” explained Deb Vincent, President of the Pride Center of the Capital Region, who organized the festivities.

For former Pride Center presidents Gwen Wright and Judy Disco, the view looked a lot different then it once did. “You couldn’t walk down the street without somebody saying something derogatory towards you. And it’s just so freeing to see this and how far we’ve come,” said Judy.
And that feeling resonated with the crowds that came out on Saturday. “When we’re here, it doesn’t matter. We’re all together. We all love each other. It doesn’t matter if I’ve known you for ten years or if I met you today, you are my family,” said Evelyn Feathers, who was there with her fiancé, Ariana Jarvis.
